Attention: Part A Outpatient Prior Authorization Inquiries

Part A hospital outpatient departments (OPDs) are required to obtain prior authorization for certain services performed in that setting. When Part A OPDs asks a Part B provider to contact the CGS Part A Provider Call Center to check the status of a prior authorization request, The Part B provider must have the following for authentication purposes:

  • Part A OPD’s Provider Transaction Access Number (PTAN)
  • Part A OPD’s National Provider Identifier (NPI)
  • Last 5 digits of the Part A OPD’s tax ID
  • The patient’s Medicare Beneficiary Identifier (MBI)
  • Beneficiary First and Last Name
  • Beneficiary Date of Birth
