Medicare Beneficiary Identifier and Beneficiary Name Interactive Voice Response and Computer Telephone Integration Converter

As you may know, it can be difficult and time consuming to obtain the numbers needed to enter the patient's Medicare Beneficiary Identifier (MBI) and beneficiary name on the telephone keypad when using the Interactive Voice Response (IVR) and Computer Telephone Integration (CTI) systems. CGS has what you need! Access the CGS IVR and CTI Converter Tools web page to obtain the numbers you need. This self-service option:

  • Converts the beneficiary's first initial of their first name and first six letters of their last name to the numbers necessary to enter on your telephone keypad.
  • Converts the 11 digit alpha/numeric Medicare Beneficiary Identifier (MBI) to the numbers/characters necessary to enter on your telephone keypad.

Please note, this converter does not validate the beneficiary's eligibility based on the MBI that you enter. However an error message will display if you enter an incorrect MBI number/alpha-numeric/numeric format.

First, type the MBI and click "Convert My MBI>>". The characters needed to enter the MBI into the IVR or CTI will display.

Second, type the first initial of the beneficiary's first name and the first six letters of their last name in the "Enter Name" field, and click "Convert the Beneficiary's Name>>". The numbers needed to enter the beneficiary's name will display.
