Prior Authorization: Not for Home Health and Hospice Providers

CGS has recently received prior authorization requests (PARs) from providers outside of the Jurisdiction 15 Medicare Administrative Contract (MAC). The CGS Part A Medical Review department only provides prior authorization for certain hospital outpatient department (OPD) services for Part A providers in the states Kentucky and Ohio, which are the Part A states that we serve as the Jurisdiction 15 MAC. The prior authorization for certain hospital outpatient departments do not apply to home health and hospice services.

Refer to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Prior Authorization for Certain Hospital Outpatient Department (OPD) Services for a list of OPD services that require prior authorization. If you are a hospital outpatient department and provide the services that require prior authorization, refer to the MAC Website List and click on the name of your state to determine the appropriate Part A and B MAC that your prior authorization request should be sent.
