Advantages of Electronic Billing
Advanced computer technology makes it possible for CGS to offer high-speed electronic data interchange (EDI) services, a key component in reducing costs and increasing efficiency.
- You're paid faster. Upon receipt, claims are generally processed within a matter of days, but cannot be paid until they have met the federal payment floor. Payment is eligible for clean electronic claims in 14 days, compared to 27 days for paper claims (a "clean" claim is one that does not require further investigation before payment).
- Improved accuracy. Electronic billing allows direct entry of claims into the CGS data processing system. Claims enter the system with the codes, charges, modifiers, etc., that are keyed by the provider staff or billing agent, or transmitted by a clearinghouse.
- Increased tracking capability. Claims are tracked through such features as online receipt verification, Electronic Receipt Listings (ERLs) and Claim Status Inquiry (CSI).
- More value for the money spent. Above all, electronic billing results in more efficient use of your office staff, freeing up time spent manually processing claims and transactions.
- Quality customer service. CGS maintains close communications with our electronic claim billers to resolve questions and ensure rapid and accurate payment. Our goal is to process electronic claims without delay or manual intervention.
