Hurricane Season Reminder

Hurricane season is just around the corner, officially kicking off on June 1, 2022 and running until November 30, 2022. Are you ready? While the hurricane season doesn’t officially start until June 1, the National Hurricane Center has already issued its first tropical weather outlookExternal Website regarding weather conditions in the Atlantic basin before the start of the hurricane season. The outlooks are issued four times daily from May 15 to Nov. 30 and describe significant areas of severe weather and its potential for tropical cyclone formation. More frequent updates are issued in the event of hurricanes or tropical storms in the Atlantic.

What are researchers predicting for the 2022 hurricane season? Colorado State University weather scientist are predicting that the hurricane season in the Atlantic basin is expected to experience a total of nine hurricanes, exceeding the average of 7.2. CSU estimates that 2022 will also have 19 named storms, exceeding the average of 14.4, and 90 named storm days, exceeding the average of 69.4. Here are the 21 names slated for the 2022 hurricane season:
