Canceling a RSNAT Unique Tracking Number (UTN)
A provisional affirmative UTN does not follow the beneficiary from one ambulance company to another. This UTN belongs to the ambulance company who made the initial prior authorization request. A beneficiary cannot have 2 UTNs at the same time or with overlapping dates. Per the CMS RSNAT Operational Guide:
Only one ambulance supplier is allowed to request prior authorization per beneficiary per time period.
If the service will no longer be provided to the patient, the ambulance provider should:
- Send an email to J15BPriorAuthEducation@cgsadmin.com
- Indicate when the ambulance company stopped providing the service so the UTN can be adjusted
or
- Have the UTN completely terminated and/or deleted
If an ambulance company does not make the appropriate changes to an existing UTN, another ambulance company will not be able to submit a prior authorization request and/or claims. The subsequent prior authorization request and/or claim may result in a rejection. It is the ambulance community's responsibility to work together to ensure continuity of care for the beneficiary and to prevent overlapping prior authorization requests.
