Policy-Based Session Description
All policy-based sessions will follow the proceeding format: The leader will begin with an overview of the Medicare coverage criteria from the LCD. Discussion of the documentation requirements for that equipment category with some documentation examples and plenty of time for questions will round out the session.
Policy sessions include:
- Oxygen
- Nebulizers
- Positive Airway Pressure (PAP)
- Enteral Nutrition
- Knee Orthoses
- Lower Limb Prosthetics
- Knee-Ankle-Foot/Ankle Foot Orthoses
- Therapeutic Shoes for Diabetics
- Glucose Monitors and Diabetic Supplies
- Power Mobility Devices
Medicare Procedures Sessions
While these sessions cover more broad-ranging topics, attendees will realize the value of these sessions as the information provided can be used for all aspects of running a compliant DME business. Some session examples include documentation requirements as outlined in the IOMs, the various auditing entities in today’s Medicare world, and a session track that is appropriate for those new to Medicare DME. Representatives from the National Supplier Clearinghouse and the Competitive Bidding Implementation Contractor will be in attendance and conduct their own sessions.
Procedural sessions include:
- Medicare 101
- Medicare 102
- Principles of Documentation (part of the “new to Medicare track”)
- Medicare Audits Overview
- National Supplier Clearinghouse
- Competitive Bidding Implementation Contractor
- Documentation Requirements (covers standard requirements found in the IOMs)
- Power Mobility Device Demonstration Project
Note the difference between the two sessions with “Documentation” in the title. Principles of Documentation is part of a track of classes designed to be appropriate for those attendees new to the Medicare DME world. Base level guidelines, as outlined in Chapter 3 of the Jurisdiction C Supplier Manual will be reviewed, as well as a discussion of an appropriate intake process. Documentation Requirements will dig deeper, including applicable references from the Internet Only Manuals (IOMs) and discuss how those references apply to all equipment categories.
